...for a E240.

I am thinking about converting from the standard to the auto dipping variety and I seem to recall someone doing this, anybody recall who this was, not able to find the post?

Hi,
This should be just plug and play, as long as you have,nt got a phone mic or garage door opening facility built into the existing mirror, if you look on E-bay there are some normally on there, they were available in 3 colours IIRC, Beige, Gray and Black (black very hard to come by, beige no one wants grey appears to be the easiest and most common), the 202, 210 & 208 all use the same mirror, expect to pay from £20-80 , I paid £60 for a brand new boxed item.
Once you have this mirror it is not a lot more work to fit dimming door mirror glass, as the additional loom is still available from MB at circa £15.
Some suitable mirrors I found on e-bay

This one is a bit more expensive but has a mic fitted to it as well.

Not sure where in country you are Dosco but you could try three pointed star as he is a breaker and if you go to his meet on the 31st, you could pick it up from him there and if wanted me to I could fit it for you on the same day, and test it there and then.

Door mirror dimming is tempting - mine are the standard as fitted to the 'Classic' as is the interior mirror (manual dim)

Thanks for your replies and info/offer, I live in Northamptonshire, where is the GTG?

Regards

Roger

Near Taunton in Devon I believe,
Regarding the dimming door mirrors, you could just fit the loom and then wait for a suitable mirror assembly to come up on E-bay or from your local breakers, to fit the dimming facility on the car "should" require a replacement mirror assembly as the mirror's loom has additional cables/plug (for the glass) but if you have folding mirrors (this can also be retro fitted) I have a dimming mirror assembly at home which you could have for the price I paid for it.
There are quite a few additional things that can be fitted for a relatively cheap price, ie puddle lights which in my case cost me approx. £4 and an hour or so of my time, illuminated vanity mirrors, bit more expensive £30 and 20 minutes of my time, though that was with 2nd hand visors at £30 and they let me have the loom, that was removed from a 210, all my mods are really 210 mods but as the 202 & 210 share a lot of parts, they were all compatible. If you want any further details don,t hesitate to post on this thread.
Additional info on the rear view mirror, I said CLK rear view mirrors are compatible which is true but that does not include the convertible variant though they can still be retro fitted with the auto dimming facility the way the mirror is secured in the car is different from the hard top version.

Hi
To have auto dimming door mirror you must first fit the rear view mirror (auto dimming) as this is effectively the brain for the door mirror dimming glass, from the overhead light console a new loom plugs runs in and down to the drivers door separation point and into the existing door plugs/sockets from there you "should" already have fitted a short loom to the door mirror plug.
The loom is as mentioned previously approx. £15 and is effectively a link from the rear view mirror to the door mirror, it comes already with crimps on and is just plug and play. If you wanted confirmation of the short door loom presence just remove your drivers side door sill step and follow the loom from the door to its connectors (4 of IIRC) and look for 2 primarily pink cables with a thin trace colour going out of the other side of the connectors off into the door, they are the only pink wires going into the door so should be quite easy to spot.

Got an interior mirror incl loom from Three Pointed Parts - yippee plus mats and covers for the boot - mine are really dirty and badly marked, not sure what has been in there before my ownership but it looks like dried blood:shock:

I am looking at coming down to the GTG will know Monday or Tuesday so Andy if I can make it are you up for some help?

Yes you are correct, and the one in the link has, plus you can see the additional plug for the dimming facility quite clearly in the pic.
