since posting last Friday the car has behaved itself - until today at which point it has been going completely mad.

I had a quick look at other MB forums and found the following posting which pretty much describes what I've had this afternoon (apologies to the OP on the other forum!)

Right now I can't lock the car without the alarm going off within a few minutes. I heard the noise described below several times - a bit of a "squawk" from just in from of the wipers with the odd "cheep" thrown in - not every time.

I'm hoping the combination might allow someone to offer a suggestion - all and any very welcome while an hour of daylight remains!!

I have not removed the PSE pump - the foam underneath is virtually bone dry, perhaps the very, very slightest dampness but nothing that would even wet a piece of newspaper squeezed below it

Here's hoping & thanks in advance
David

"Problem was my alarm going off on it's own for no reason. I researched and came up with the first thing to check PSE. I took it out opened it...yes it had some condensation and a little water in it. I cleaned it up dried it out put it back in and my car was fine for 2 days. When I came home from work I hit the locks with the fob and boom the alarm goes off. So I had to leave unlocked for a night.

Then I go to drive to work and stop for a coffee..I come out and the alarm is going off. I didnt even set before I went in to the store. Unlocked and unarmed. It would not shut off..I had to pop the hood and pull the fuse. It did stop but then I heard this sound coming from under the wiper area that was not very loud but annoying enough that you could hear it if you were anywhere within a 15 ft. radius. Almost a ticking/alarm tone noise.

I went home and jumped on the this site to research a little..and nothing on my noise or issue, everything was PSE related posts which I had been thru already.

So I dug in and found the siren part of the alarm...I disconnected the main battery and it still kept making the noise. At this point I knew it was the siren..if I put my hand over it..the noise dimmed. Then I unplugged the the clip..still noisy! So I took it out totally and it kept ticking that aweful sound. I took it apart and unplugged the small battery pack and it stopped.

I know this has been lenghly but it might help someone.

My question is where can I get another one of these battery packs? Or do I have to buy a whole unit? And do you think this is the culpit to my problem?"

We have never had one yet on a 230 that has gone down, and they have been around since 2002

There will always be a first, and all it takes is one cell to go S/C And yes this is the fix for most of the cars that do this.

I dismissed it only that there has never been one yet that I know of

decided to take the easiest (alas also potentially the most expensive!) option & visit the dealership tomorrow in the hope they might be able to download any error codes. It went off after being locked with the roof down this aft & the ultrasonic disabled by default so it's not that sensor

The symptoms have been quite varied - squawking as previous thread, flashing the lights for (say) 10 seconds before the siren kicks in & the siren sounding a little bit "hoarse" for want of a better word - lots of variables too many to bore everyone !!

as and when I find out what it is/was, I'll post an update.

Cheers

errrr . you do now !!

Visited MB this morning - Star said fault with siren - dropped it out (absolutely bone dry btw so not a water ingress problem), replaced the unit and all fixed. Additional bonus - it now beeps, albeit quietly, three times to say its locked, so no longer do I have to stand there looking like a plonker admiring my own car when making sure the locks drop when I lock it.

Unit cost £62.00 + one hour so not a fortune and worth it for the speed & convenience.

Interesting thought that the dealer had one in stock - that tells its own tale I think:shock::shock:

not a prize I was looking to win though!!

I never lock mine while it is in the garage or stood outside, so mine does not get locked that much, not that it should make any difference.

What annoys me is that your symptoms were exactly the same as all of the other post on this, and the cure the same, but as it had never happened before I did not tie it all in

if it beeps, it seems they have not bothered to code it properly! uk models should not beep. glad you are happy with it though.
