wouldnt want it in the event of a speeding accusation/accident caused by me and a video essentially incriminating me.

Don't some cars (Jaguar XJ-R is one I know of) already have a black box fitted that record all the essential data that can be retrieved after an accident?

If I remember rightly it always keeps the last minute or so of car information from the ECUs, including rpm, speed, gear, braking info, g-force etc and can be interrogated by Police forensics if necessary.

Another reason not to buy a Jaguar.

Will concur with malc that it would be a fun peice of kit to make vids though, just something not comfortable with for the police angle

I can remember seeing a link on another forum I am a member of to a thread on the piston heads forum where the actual guy whose Monaro it was had posted.

I would be supprised if the Police actually do anything. It just goes to show you what they must have gotten away with in the past and also what some garages and body shops may be up to with your pride and joy when you leave it their supposed trusty hands. When my car went in the body shop I took a note of the mileage and checked it was roughtly the same when I collected it.

I agree and also when the car goes in for a service take pictures with that days news paper in the picture,, so that the ones doing the service cannot argue about any damaged wheels or body scuffs

There must be plenty of horror stories of accidents caused by mechanics when cars are in for repair.

Like this one....

My mate worked for the main Volvo garage in Glasgow and there was a 164 (newish at the time) in for a service. It had a new set of brake pads fitted and the grease monkey was instructed to remove the car from the ramp and park it up in the forecourt. He drove off the ramp as fast as he could reversing into the wall. He forgot to pump the brake pedal before moving the car.
The car was whisked round to the body shop where it received a new back wing and bumper before the customer came and collected his car.

This happened at my place back in the 80s.

A friend brought his 280SL pagoda in for new pads. I fitted them, and he just jumped in and tried to drive off while I was washing my hands. He took off and dropped off the concrete down on to the lawn some 20" below. With some scaffold planks we managed to get him out :D

I did a similar thing with a Mini, drove it into the workshop and straight into the back of a VW Beetle, they'd forgotten to tell me it was in for brakes. Best thing was, it belonged to one of my ex teachers and he was stood next to it. My aim has improved since then. :D
I know of a guy who had a Bimota SB8 written off by a mechanic in front of his eyes. I think he'd taken it in to get a new rear tyre and the mechanic was 'testing' it but forgot to stop at the end of the car park. The wall did the job for him.
I had considered fitting a gadget to my BMW but the fact it only looks out front was too limiting for me. I'd need a 360 view.

Reading these posts has had me in stitches and reminded me of a story told to me by a very good friend with whom I worked with.

Before the 2nd WW he was an apprentice auto electrician and had just finished a repair on a customers car taking it out for a test drive (he had not passed his test) he had to stop on a steep hill and as he started off rolled back into a Jowet Javelin. Now those who know the JJ will also know it was started by using a crank handle which engaged into a 'dog' which stuck out in front of the vehicle. So has he hit the JJ the 'dog' trepanned its way into the boot of the car he was driving leaving a perfectly formed hole - panic so when he got back to the garage he parked the car's boot close up to a wall and told no one.

The customer collected the car not knowing anything - he returned a few days later with tears in his eyes saying "look what some bastard has done to my car, how much will it cost to repair"

I wet myself laughing and still do:p
