Hello and welcome

Check for rust and make sure all the toys work as they can be expensive to fix.

I bought a '99 S500 earlier this year. Higher mileage than yours and more money. Had to buy new tyres, battery, 2 cats, MAF sensor.

But its the best car I've ever had !!

Matt

Hello John and welcome,,they really are great cars and the 280 should do between 24 and 31 mpg,,but you will do it in style.

Do check for any rust blister in the rear wheel arches or boot near the fittings

Also front wheel arches are prone to rust

No one can guarantee trouble free motoring but they are good

With your now grown up self, forget the 280 and go for a 320cdi, go well, good on fuel and the best ride in town!!!

I get 22-24 mpg. You should do better than that.
Also check the heater system does hot & cold. The valves have a habit of sticking.
