As per title... (posted here so you do not have to read 26 Pages)

First impressions

After putting 400 Miles on the clock very satifyed with the remap to say the leased. The power is delivered in such away that as and when your foot is down you get pushed into the seat (makes me smile every time). Smoke no i wasent worried about smoke but its been reduced on full throttle yes you get a puff but only for a second then before you know it your at the speed limit . the power is very strong from pulling away all the way through to the red (if required) even at 70 MPH you have the power on tap. based on normal driving there is a large difference ie power when required there seems to be little waiting for the turbo to give you that thrust its just so smooth and raw (in a strange sence).

MPG

The MPG have shown a raise of only 3 - 5 MPG but this is quite good as its been drivern with enthusiasm by me as said before yes its hard to tell as there are huge factors that can sway it from side to side but there is still an improvement even though this was not requested, more of bounus.

Town driving

as said above the general pulling power is improved from the word go. The gear change is also different at 30-35 MPH it will change up far sooner than standard. start stop is improved there is a much smoother on light throttle.

Motorway driving

Simple when you want the power its there when you do not require it its not.
At light throttle it seens to change up much quicker and smoother,at heavey throttle it is a different machine it will pull and pull and pull all of this = a scared wife and a large smile.

All in all dispite all of the negative reports from this forum its been a pleasure. And i will have no hesitation in recommending gcl tuning for remapping to anyone, I would also like to than my mercedes dealer in bury st edmunds for the car and there service.

one of the best £450 invoices ive had ! If you are looking at the brabus remaps i would reccomend you at leased get in touch will gcl or a similar comapany.

Well we have never had anyone who was not happy with a re map

Considering all the flak that has been thrown about in relation to remaps, I think that is a good point - no one has been unhappy with a remap, particularly on a turbo diesel (to my knowledge anyway).

I have never heard of anyone breaking a drivetrain, gearbox or anything else for that matter ...............

And I've never heard any complaints about the extra power ............ or the fuel consumption ................ ever !!

...as per previous thread, My RS Turbo blew a gearbox whilst re-mapped. The fun I had with the car though made it worthwhile and I didnt look to find any 3rd party to blame or pay.

...trouble is with your statement, how many at a later date buy these Fish'n'Chipped (R) cars and do have problems? Makes you wonder..........

good idea to remap a W208 230K?

The gain on a petrol car is hardly worth while,,you would be forced to use 98 ron fuel in return for something like a 15 bhp gain

In fairness though (and in keeping with the happy tradition of taking threads off topic), RS2 gearboxes were quite happily self destructing even without the help of a re-map. I think the input shaft must have been sourced from a 1.1 Fiesta. I've still got an RS2 'box sitting in my garage, keep meaning to put it on e-bay just never seem to find the time.

Anyway, back on topic. The OP is happy with his re-map and that's all that matters. :)

Remap

I have toyed with the idea of getting my E280 CDI remapped, I can get it done by a local specialist tuning company for £285 with a week to try it out and money back if not completely satisfied. I was just wondering if the on board MPG figures that show on the trip computer would be accurate after the remap. I understand that improved MPG is one benefit which appeals to me also the improved performance, I have been quoted about 45 - 50 BHP on my car. Thanks in advance.

It's been discussed on here before and I think the general consensus was that the OBC will not be accurate after the map, that's if it ever was in the first place. It's just hearsay though, no testing was done to prove this one way or the other. :(

I still think that some gains can be had on the MPG front, providing you do not use the extra torque, and drive in a economical fashion, but it only takes one burst of power to wipe it all away.

We really need someone that does a lot of motor work, and has had the car re mapped

There will always be pro's and con's on this subject. By far do the pro's outweigh the con's.

I was not expecting what gcl achived. In my veiw its well worth it for the money compared with the Brabus upgrade.

One other point i have uncoverd is that mercedes do not make the programme it the ecu manufacture such as bosch. Mercedes clearly have a part with in this. Tuning comapnys with in the uk "fine Tune" so to speak to suit what you want. Most of these companys only provide this service so should be doing it day in day out

...wasnt aware of that, in fact, the mechanic at Ford wasnt and was perplexed (didnt mention the 'upped power). A friend had the earlier Mk3 RS Turbo, not modified, driven in similar manner and never had a problem.... probably just my bad luck!!!

Anyway, back on topic. The OP is happy with his re-map and that's all that matters. :)
Too true, topic must be adhered to

So would I be in trouble if I asked whether or not a full English breakfast could ever be regarded as a full english breakfast without black pudding!!!
Not if you set up a scientific test on the subject. I'll volunteer for the tasting part. :D

Its a forced inducation engine a CLK230k, a remap will yield a fair bit more than 15bhp.

Ive done some looking and it seems that there is a pully upgrade that is required to give 30-40 bhp 15-20BHP is the norm without the pully (Reference MB Club)
