car back from specialist-injector chuffing!!!????

Hi all,

I put my car into MB specialist for cold start problems and he replaced 3 fuel lines all now ok under additional information he has said that :

- Injector no 3 chuffing
- poly belt not running true requires new tensioner,belt and idler.

I know what the second means and he is going to give me an estimate but what is meant by injector no3 chuffing and is there anything i can do to sort this out i.e fuel treatment.

My car is a 02 C220 CDI coupe

i expect he means that the injector seal has failed allowing a small amount of blow by of combustion gasses. The only fix is to replace the seal.

If it's in the early stages it's a very straight forward DIY job.
About an hours labour give or take. If it's advanced then the sky's the limit. Sam is not exagerating when he says that he has spent 15 hours on this job - it's entirely feasible. It's recently taken me a full day to strip a Vaneo out, then I had to finish the cleaning process, fit new wiring connectors & put it all together afterwards. Time well spent for the customer as no injectors needed replacing afterwards.
As you've only been advised about this I'd presume that yours is in the early stages. If you're only being quoted an hour or two I'd be tempted to say let him do it. He should be equipped with the seat cutting tools, long reach taps etc, which are required to do the job effectively.

About £50 from an indie, thus evading the possibility of a snapped stretch bolt and other such nasties when you try it yourself (like it leaking again after a short space of time)

Surprised your Mb guy didnt fix the injector seal, I would have thot that was a matter that needed urgent sorting..

I guess that it must be in the early stages.
Obviously needs sorting, but in the short term they tend not to be a huge issue. The black death comes when it's left for a period of time.

Q.I. moment!! Attaching a hose to the exhaust of a diesel powered car is quite futile if you are serious about ending it all!!!!

I bet you drive much further breathing petrol /exhaust fumes than you will breathing in diesel exhaust fumes..just try it..

Whilst I agree that the effects of diesel fumes are far more uncomfortable to deal with, petrol emissions contain a far higher level of carbon monoxide (the gas of choice for suicide) even with modern management systems.

Whilst the particulates of a diesel exhaust are harmful to health, this is a long term issue, not a poisoning issue.

Hello,
Just been through this exact scenario, though I used the local garage and they were quite "I know what I'm doing, you don't need new bolts" etc etc.

So it's in for the 3rd time, this time I have specifically instructed in writing:
1/ Recut the seat using the tool I have hired from united diesel
2/ Clean and grease the injector using the grease from Wunderpartz
3/ Fit new bolts and washers, which I got from Wunderpartz
4/ Take it for a proper run this time and listen to it under load.

Not so, petrol cars produce many times more CO than diesel due to diesel running with excess oxygen at all times. The cat doesn't stop noxious gasses being produced it just converts them into another noxious gas, which will still kill you.

humans can't survive on Co2 and better than Co.
