You got those mpg's right, Alex?

In my first car, Imp, (before modifying) if the wind blew head-on it was like some one pulled the handbrake on!!

But my point was the stated gains could easily be a result of driving conditions.

I have always kept a log of fuel, mileage, trip mileage and cost.

In the good old days I could not afford not to (Rover 105s as a student was a bit of an indulgence!). The other good reason at that time was that I gauged the time to service the care by how well it started, and whether the mpg had begun to fall off. That enabled quite long servicing intervals by the standards of the day, and seemed to do the cars no harm.

Remember, I come from Aberdeen. In Scotland, every penny is a prisoner. In Aberdeen, each penny is in solitary confinement!

I only asked because your mpg was the same both with the headwind and tailwind?

I used to judge service intervals by tread depth!!

You're quite right Peter. I could have sworn that I saw "18 mpg in to wind" when I was writing that.

I plead senility. I am sure I wrote 18 mpg - but I wonder if my spell checker recognizes 30 mpg but not 18 mpg - am I a victim of auto-correction?

No, you're right. Senility is the more likely cause! Thank you for noticing!

Each re-map thread is upto 15% better than the last ......... and a lot more powerfull, in it's argument ................
More Bollox  ........ why is it these remap threads generate so many un-substantiated claims  15%........ with my reckoning, this thread is less than 2/5ths the thread of the previous threads >10,000 reads..... claim, claim, claim.... but nobody backs it up

Oh! well.... just have to think of ideas to create a mega thread (>20,000 reads).... any ideas anyone? What stirs the sole most? .... religion? politics? .....what about E-Craps, surely they can get the sole stirring given what poor extension to a mans libido they represent  .... I mean, only old and past its buy E-Craps

And I still say that gains could be had maybe possible after a re map if you were to drive the car with economy in mind rather than performance, but those wanting the re maps are seldom doing it for economy

Mercedes ECU Remapping Review of GCL Tuning

As per title...

First impressions

After putting 400 Miles on the clock very satifyed with the remap to say the leased. The power is delivered in such away that as and when your foot is down you get pushed into the seat (makes me smile every time). Smoke no i wasent worried about smoke but its been reduced on full throttle yes you get a puff but only for a second then before you know it your at the speed limit ;). the power is very strong from pulling away all the way through to the red (if required) even at 70 MPH you have the power on tap. based on normal driving there is a large difference ie power when required there seems to be little waiting for the turbo to give you that thrust its just so smooth and raw (in a strange sence).

MPG

The MPG have shown a raise of only 3 - 5 MPG but this is quite good as its been drivern with enthusiasm by me as said before yes its hard to tell as there are huge factors that can sway it from side to side but there is still an improvement even though this was not requested, more of bounus.

Town driving

as said above the general pulling power is improved from the word go. The gear change is also different at 30-35 MPH it will change up far sooner than standard. start stop is improved there is a much smoother on light throttle.

Motorway driving

Simple when you want the power its there when you do not require it its not.
At light throttle it seens to change up much quicker and smoother,at heavey throttle it is a different machine it will pull and pull and pull all of this = a scared wife and a large smile.

All in all dispite all of the negative reports from this forum its been a pleasure. And i will have no hesitation in recommending gcl tuning for remapping to anyone, I would also like to than my mercedes dealer in bury st edmunds for the car and there service.

one of the best £450 invoices ive had ! If you are looking at the brabus remaps i would reccomend you at leased get in touch will gcl or a similar comapany.

David, thanks for the summary update. Sounds like a great result all round. Mind you the "scared wife" side effect, in my experience, tends to result in prolonged ear-ache....

Not a doom monger .. but always a believer.. put simply if brabus can do and overcharge for it and it works for them then no reason why a proper tuning outfit..with scruples..can also do it.. and as for the warranties , who really cares they will be no worse than the 'official' warranties..

Just checked the GCL website out and it states that GCL is FOR SALE, or for RENT

Guess that means no warranty then for their poor customers????
