Does anyone know how to permanently display the outside temperature on a UK ML 300 CDI?

It is one of the options on the dashboard display which you can bring up by going through the menus. You could leave that as your default (just as you can leave it on kph for Continental driving).

According to the owner's handbook UK cars always display the outside temperature in the status line.

"You can select the following functions in the Standard display menu by pressing ^ or v :

• tyre pressure loss warning more or tyre pressure monitor
• coolant temperature
• digital speedometer or outside temperature
• ASSYST PLUS service interval display
• engine oil level

Above is wrong. As the KMPH speed has to be visible the status line is locked in UK cars to only show the speed in KMPH. It doesnt even let you change the readout to MPH or show the temperature on that line. In earlier cars UK mode could be removed via STAR (a main dealer wont do this for you however) to let you change the readout to MPH or display the temperature permanently on the status line but it cant be done on newer vehicles.

Then the on-line interactive owner's handbook is wrong!

Perhaps the side note stating the outside temp is always displayed on UK cars should actually read the KPH display is always displayed?
