snow "tyre socks" ... E-class help please ...

I have bought a new E350 CDi - coupe - sports - and my rear tyres are:
255 35 R 18 97 Y ...
I want to get "tyre socks" for the rear tyres but no manufacturer makes them for this specific tyre! Any suggestions or alternatives please?

It's a "sock" that covers a wheel/tyre during snowy/icy weather ... they act as snow chains but aren't ... They are meant to be excellent!

Socks over the shoes in this slippery weather are also a very good idea.. muche better than a fall.

still no luck - BUT - thank you guys ... only snow chains are available and I have heard they will chew up my tyres! maybe i should get different tyres for my car - ones that are more common to snow-socks!

As the set I have for my car do several sizes

Only thing is not easy to fit too big tires

winter tyres are the way to go, try getting a spare set of rims even tatty ones, and stick some winter tyres on them, ive done this for the first time this year and they are amazing in the snow!

Living on a farm just outside Gatwick and not wanting to visit a hedge like this driver:



I thought I would give the Ebay socks a go on my 245x45x17 cars feet and see how they felt.



They went on ok, took 20 mins, you get some elbow length plastic gloves to wear and if you have a spare floor mat in the boot to kneel on helps. Its a case of put half on the tyre first, drive the car back or fore a foot then slip the other half on. If possible jack the tyre up just enough to get ground clearance, it makes putting them on a lot easier.



The result was a car that drove easily through 3 to 4 inches of freshly fallen snow. Mild hill starts were no problem, it certainly gives the driver confidence and these can be used at 30-40 mph on partly clear roads without having to immediately take them off as you would with snow chains.

They come off quickly and easily, these pack very small and I would certainly recommend throwing a set in the boot should you get stuck unexpectedly in snow/ice somewhere.

sounds good, been looking at the auto socks, Im guessin there the same technology? any signs of tearing etc after the first initial run?

Only did a bit of through the village and 10 mile round trip to Dorking via dual carriageway, no sign of wear at all.

Got a few strange looks, not many people have these on and the only other cars going through the village were 4x4's.

Tend to think these are more for getting you out of a rut rather than a 100 mile journey type of thing. But still think its worth having a pack in the boot.

It suppose to be 2 mn to fit them, how come it took you 20?
Just wondering as I got a pair in the boot that I might fit later on to try.
Good tip to lift the tyre up, I might put the jack in the boot.
How easy/ difficult was it to centered it.
