But what about the Polar Bears? Will they be OK?
Unfortunately not :( ... we will need to chop them up at the onset of winter to melt their blubber down to power our Diesel engines.... the fur coats will cover out nice shiny Mercedes cars so that they dont waste fuel through excessive heat loss.... and a Polar Bear burger with Mushroom Double Swiss will be all the rage

But no one has done any experiments to see if you would be better off burried just 3 feet under or 50 feet

Apparently a new EEC ruling states that politicans and lawyers ..when they die should now be buried 50 feet down...

Its reckoned deep down they are ok......

Modifying software

Yes it does void the warranty.

What you do with your car as a private individual is one thing. But when other companies use the software that MB developed and modify it for profit, that is quite another. Especially when most chip firms have no permission from MB to do what they do.

This means that in your eyes it is illegal to have ANY computer software, not only in the car, but also in your home computer and modify or alter the programmes to do what you want.
You purchase the software with the car and home computer computer hence it is your property,
and you may do with it what you wish, like crashing the car if you wish.
If you have the software modified or altered that is down to you and nothing to do with the car manufacturer.
You can legaly modify or alter anything you own legaly providing it is for your own use, (this does not cover certain things nregarding firearms apart from the cosmetics ,accuracy and trigger pull.)
The car manufacturers DO sell identical cars but some with enhanced power outputs from the same size engine and charge a lot more than the re-mappers do.
The copyright law allows you to go to someone with something and have them make, or alter it to suit you BUT does not allow that person to manufacture the item and then offer it to you for sale.
You say that the re programmers alter the item but that is ok for you to have this done as it is no longer the programme the manufacturer developed which you have bought, but a NEW programme.
You also say that they sell it for profit, I think you are wrong as they are selling you a part of a new programme and charging you for the RE-programming work they did and they are not selling you the original programme which you legally own.

If a firm takes Microsoft WORD and mods it a bit and sells it to customers, they will be sued. Intellectual property rights.

And Mercedes are well within the law to say if you chip the car they will void the warranty unless you lose an approved chip like Brabus. Even then they limit the warranty to 60k miles instead of unlimited miles.

In the case of Computer Software you DO NOT purchase the software at all. You purchase a LICENCE to use it. The software is owned by the company that created it and they have the Intellectual Rights on it. You, as the purchaser of a LICENCE to use it must agree to the terms and conditions laid down by the creator which dictates how you can use it. The licence will invariably include restrictions on copying, lending, reselling and will also include restrictions or prohibitions on decompiling and modifying their intellectual property. Its all detailed in that bit that everyone clicks "agree" on when installing software and never reads what they are agreeing to.........

Absolutely David. This fact has made Mr Gates and extremely rich man - one licence per PC loaded with his products.

No one ever reads licence agreements - if you want to use the system, you have to agree.

Are remapping software designers actually modifying the software or just replacing the lookup table with a fresh one that they have created?

Lots of promises, but not much of actual data reports.

Glync and Cole did the remap and another guy i think but hardly gave evidence of real usage, except for increase in power (and their hapiness with it).

Fuel saving remaps were just a phantom. the rest was almost useless wishfull thinking and the usual ego trip.

thinking i lost my time reading 86 pages of this, and still contributing another post.

Well summed up, excellent first post. Welcome. :)

Edit: Even if you did resurrect a thread that had thankfully disappeared from people's radar.

Roadhog, thanks for the welcome.

Having recently changed from a W201 2.5D to a W202 250TD Station, i saw an increase in gas consumption about 30% (6.5lt to 8.5lt), which led me to this thread and the possibilities of chipping.

I found and article that adresses this stuff at http://www.fuelsaving.info/chipping.htm, it might be useful to others.

I you're interested in fuel savings also check http://ecomodder.com/forum/fuel-economy-mpg-modifications.php#c9 and http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthre...chanical-problems-hurt-fuel-economy-5322.html

You could change it to a mere 22 pages by altering the setting in your Control Panel. :)

MB
Is there potential for adjustment in an MB during the 'warm-up' phase only ?

Mine pours through, just warming up (54 w203) but mpg's not that bad after.
