A nursery school teacher was delivering a station wagon full of kids home one day when a fire truck zoomed past.

Sitting in the front seat of the fire truck was a Dalmatian dog.

The children started discussing the dog's duties.

They use him to keep crowds back," said one youngster.

"No, said another, "he's just for good luck."

A third child brought the argument to a close....

"They use the dogs", she said firmly, "to find the fire hydrant."

Ahhhh.gif

New Audi RS5 Coupe on order
My first car was a Vauxhall Chevette affectionatly known as "B*****D" because it was always breaking down and I relied on it for Uni, the times I was laste for class.
In actual fact my tutor named the car because he once said.................
" Get rid of that "B*****D" car and catch the bus !!!

Very much so Tracy. Any clues on which part of the country you are in, or what car you drive?

To go off at a bit of a tangent, does anyone find their car influences the way they they drive? I'm perfectly normal in my Focus (imo) but put me behind the wheel of the 190E and my feet get heavy. On the other hand when I load up the Estate and head for my daughter's flat for a day's graft, an old g+t gets into the driver's seat and chugs along sedately. Has anyone else experienced similar personality changes?

They have been reported to me. SWMBO tells me that I always drive much faster in the 129. I explained that it is an illusion as she is just sitting closer to the ground. She then got all factual on me and started quoting speedometer readings. I said that if she could read these she must have had her eyes open, so I can't have been going that fast.

You are quite right - I am sure we adopt a style suitable to the car and the moment. I certainly drop about 10 mph if there is a passenger in the car.

First car was a Holden Commodore with the rego KFN.... local vicar named it King Farouk's Nephew. The name stuck.

My V6 Calibra is Cally

The 230E is Sally and the W140 is Izzy.... named after two of my late kitties. (sad eh?)

Crew at work call the W140 The Tank.
One lady called it "oh my f**king god" and another called it "****** hell".

On Friday's I drive a van (with a couple of convicts) and there's no doubt I turn into White Van Man.

Not quicker (it's a van), more, er, carefree regarding the impact of my driving on others.

I tend to think it's a combination of the driving position being high up, the van not being mine and the company I keep in the passenger seats.

I'm not condoning it - more confirming that White Van Man is a tangible phenomenon.

Sorry to those of you who I may have been a tw*t to whilst in the van

Keep it up, they deserve a nice invigorating drive. Can I come and drive too so that I can inflict more pain?

Ah, my views on the why's and wherefore's of the CS guys and the prisoners I get "on the van" and how they consider it a deterrent (not) is a whole thread in itself.

my car (when it actually stays out of the garage long enough after its spate of illness) is my bread van as pete calls it and i feel like a chelsea schoolrun mam. but my last car vw golf gttdi i felt like a boy racer! then theres the consideration of who is actually in the car with you at the time! but as ive got older ive mellowed a lot and tend to enjoy driving more rather than see it as a speed mission and a showing off tool!! oh my god DID I JUST SAY THAT???? im talking like a mummy already!!!

I have a 1988 Volvo 760 turbo intercooler estate that my wife and daughter call Robocop due to the noises you hear when you play with the electric seat controls. But my new addition the E300 Turbo diesel W210 they call Christine from the film because like Arnie Cunningham in the movie i just love my Mercedes and cant stop talking about her and the trinkets i am going to buy for her. Need to go now Christine is calling me..
