E270 cdi 2005 alternator

I have an estate version E270 cdi from 2005 and need to replace the alternator but does anyone know if that model is water cooled?

I was going to say that but not sure if this applies to some of them, I know that on some you can,, interesting that nothing ever in WIS on this subject

Hello and thank you for that Malcolm and Richard.

I suppose I should have said that the reason I am going to replace the alternator is because I get a fault message that tells me there is a problem with it.
Which is backed up by the battery refusing to charge while driving the vehicle.
I have tried , in vain, for months to locate a regulator.

So to replace the unit looks like the only alternative.

Do you think that is the right way to go?

Be warned..
Water cooled Merc alternators cost a fortune..
I had forgotten that I had the alternator replaced on my E320 Cdi (under warranty) and the bill was £880 !!!

Bring back the days of a £45 Alternator rebuild !

£880...ohmigoddd !

I'm working in France at the moment and the local garage quoted me a price of over 1200euros plus delivery which is why I'm planning on doing it myself.

I have been offered alternators which they said were the correct part..however once I mentioned it should be water cooled the conversation stopped!

Hello Malcolm wasn't sure how to do that and I thought you weren't supposed to edit posted mail???

I am new after all.

I am in the Loire valley near Angers.
And the part is by Bosch.

And I thought 1200euros was excessive too.

However I also have a Land Rover (disco 2) and wanted to change the headlights over and was quoted 1000 euros for that here!
But I had Britpart ship a pair for £250 inclusive.

The one's you have taken off will be worth a price too - either now (if you don't plan bringing it back) or in due course when you change back on return to the UK.

I don't know how far you are from Le Mans, but I always used to use LE HELLO, who were always very helpful, and usually managed to find cheap(er) solutions, and good on repairs, too.
