I have been thinking of doing a bit more towards maintenance of my engine, not just typical oil flush/change, and use of cleaning additives every now and then. I have seen a lot of products like "XADO 1 Stage Maximum Metal Conditioner" which cost over £40, not typical additive... DO THEY ACTUALLY WORK? or is it just as beneficial as cheap additivies for £5. i.e. r they worth the extra£ and what r the best brands?

P.S. My first thread starting, so forgive me if i did anything wrong. BIG THANK YOU to all who can advise on use of these "engine conditioners":?:

waste of money in my opinion. regular oil changes using decent oil should be all you need.

Ok... Personal view... Many of todays' engines have millions of £s thrown into development. Similarly into fuels and oils. Companies have been advertising miracle additives for decades and not without much superficial explanation and scientific theory. Good on 'em I say because there are many people out there that will swear by a particular process or additive which allegedly gives them an advantage somewhere.
Personally, and after many years of farting around with engines from 20cc to 200 litre the only occasional advantage in an engine with fuel injection like todays engines is an occasional injector cleaner additive to clean some of the crap out of the system now and then.
Not sworn to work but even I feel the engine works better after.

You pays yer money and takes yer choice...

Hmm, genuine snake oil? - Mobil 1 !!!

Injectors clogged? - Shell V Power.

Additives? - K-Seal works. It stops radiator/coolant leaks :)

if you read the driver's handbook for many cars, it specifically advises against the use of these things.

I wouldnt even use K seal. Just fix the coolant leak, I have seen that stuff sieze water pumps and block radiators!!

A real quality oil like Mobil 1 changed regularly with some injector cleaner is the best form of flush you can do.

OK BIG THANKS GUYS, i guess regular oil changes with fuel injector cleaner every now and then should keep things nice.
