Hi Sue
Have you had a look in your Hand Book or if this is not stated, go to your nearest MB Dealer or Indie Specialist where I am sure they will be able to advise you on the correct grade of fuel to use.
I'm sorry I can't help any further
Best of luck with this

Just to be clear, you want 95 RON fuel.

I don't think that any petrol MBs sold now require 98 RON fuel.

In the UK that's sold as regular.
On the continent it tends to be sold as premium.

I'd use regular. No real benefit from premium. Possibly a tank of super-plus fuel every now and then or else a shot of additive to keep things clean but 5* - nah.

You are right, it was very confusing in Germany and Holland with 3 grades offered, no one here as you say needs 98 ron,,,, some find the fuel consumption worse, I did when I had the chance to try it in good conditions

Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....
I believe the engine has a "knock sensor" - so it should run better on Super - but try them both and see!

The knock sensor will retard the engine if need be, but no standard MB will knock on 95 ron fuel, Knock is all to do with the compression ratio and poor detonation when fuel used has an octane number under what is needed.

My CL216 is a high performance car, the handbook says, "refuel only with unleaded with a grade of at least 95 RON /85 MON" If I put in 98 RON the engine cannot burn it to any advantage at all. I can also use 91 RON if stuck in some countries where that is the norm, and this is where the anti knock sensor will retard the engine

Just to bring this topic up again and I am sorry if someone else has already done this but:-
I have a late 2007 CLK 280 C209 sport etc. I have been using regular petrol on a daily basis but every 4th or 5th fill of the tank I use premium/super. The car seems happy with this and I have not noticed any problems. I recently logged on to the MB official website and entered my vin no. and amongst the information provided it stated that the car should be run on "super" all the time, what is your opinion?

What is MB's definition of "super"? It should state a RON value as a minimum requirement. Every owner's handbook I've seen states the minimum RON required. There is no detriment in using a higher RON fuel

Hsloco, what it's called is largely irrelevant it's the RON count that matters. No matter what people say we have good quality fuel here in the uk, normal juice ( from say shell or Bp) will be just fine. Even high powered cars like Subaru or Mitsubishi which are highly tuned turbo engines are advised to run on the 98 Ron for full performance, 95 Ron detected by the ecu will simply retard the engine as other have said.

Simply not worth the extra money. I have never been able to tell the difference in diesel or petrol cars between supposed top spec fuel and the cheapest....

95 ron fuel is more than good enough for your engines requirements, do not forget that some countries have nothing over 90 ron, and the cars have to run on that.

Look on the inside of the filler cap. It will give relevant information on there.
