my Mercedes was first registered in 1973 but it may have been made in 72 - does anyone know who to contact at MB to see if it was? (obviously this is to avoid having to pay road tax)

it goes on registration date, not build date IIRC

Remove an ashtray or similar and note the date of manufacture on the back.That will be close to actual build date.

1973 is too old for checking via EPC. He would have to go via MB UK to get the actual date it rolled off the production line (delivery date on datacards)..

Have you tried contacting starbucks, google , vodafone or any other multi conglomerate and they should be able to help you with your tax avoidance...:lol:

Do you know exactly when it was registered? If in the first week of 73, DVLA concedes that the car would have been manufactured in 72

I'd try contacting MB first

Bit more specific than the info from https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-exempt-from-car-tax

Thanks everyone. It's definitely date of manufacture that counts. Looks like MB UK is my best bet. Nice tip Xtractor - that got a laugh all round

It also says if the vehicle was first registered between Jan 1rst and 7th 1973 its presumed to be built the previous year. despite its "1973" registration. That said--- date the car came off the production line from the manufacturer should do the trick.
