Im new to being a merc owner but some advice is needed...

I am just about to buy a 2000 CLK430 convertible, 97K on the clock

Is there anything I need to be careful of when looking over the car?

Hello and welcome, the drive train is great on these cars, the worst that can happen is rust in the rear wheel arches on the inside, that can creep round and up the rear wings, front wings also possible rust

What do you mean by different models, engines? trim? If you mean Avantgard / Elegance, then the elegance has a softer ride, and, thats about it really.

Do not worry about the timing chains, they go a long way.

The CLK is the basic shape in that class and tightly associated with the C class mid range cars. the number denotes the engine size fitted. if you do a search on Wikki all the info comes up

You may need the correct surround bezel not supplied by MB but the radio maker

I have a Kenwood DNX 9280 BT in my clk, the original comand2 is in the cupboard.
