Hi Guys - 'Battery protection: Convenience functions temporarlly unavailable'...had this flash up today when first started (not used car 2 days), after about 10 second it then stated all functions now ok and went off, no malfunction message when i switched off.

I did clean the car on Sat and had all doors open for about an hour. Gave the car a 20 mile run so hope all is now ok.

Car W211 E55 AMG

Any comments welcome

Cheers,
DSB.

There is an update for this problem with the w211.
It widens the tolerance level so the fault does no show unless the battery is really low

There is an update but to be fair all the doors open when cleaning can cause this and nothing to worry about, all the update does is to shift the point where every thing turns off, you have still flattened the battery somewhat

Nothing to worry about unless you start to see it under normal use.

On VERY cold winter mornings I occasionally see the same message, but never under any other circumstances. Just get the car used a bit more for a while and/or take it on a nice long run. Ort better still, give the battery/ies a good charge to top them up, and you should not see the message again unless one of the batteries genuinely has a problem.

As above, it needs a good charge for some hours, driving it 100 miles will not do much, and I would do nothing

thanks guys...the car was driven to me a few weeks ago and did about 200 miles, so would have thought full charge...since then short runs (max 20 miles) i am not too worried as it starts first time no issues even after being left for 4-5 days...

Hi

My W211 has not been used for three weeks, so when not in use its permanently connected to a c-tec battery charger. It takes just a few seconds to connect up, and keeps the battery in A1 condition through out the year, no matter what the weather.

A few short runs can pull 8 amps out of the battery one a 211 for some time before it goes to sleep

I used to get this all the time on my old E211 270 CDi when I was coming back from holiday. Solved it with two solar trickle "Chargers" as my lock up has no mains power. These put enough into the battery to help but they are not a gharger as such, if you have mains power then a trickle charger is the way to go. My favorite is the Optimate. I have left the car 11 weeks on the solar jobs and started first turn, when I immediatley switched it of for a minuie or so to let the drained oil sort itself out. If you dont have a power source or garage you can put the solar jobs on the rear parcel shelf.
