We seem to have had a few stories of poor dealer service and cock ups lately.
So just for balance has anyone got some good news.

I haven't been to a main dealer for ages.

I can recommend Alex Crow and Steve @ Avantgarde Automotive. Knowing when you've left that the job has been done correctly is a happy ending in my book.

Whilst I waited 25 minutes in the parts department the other day for them to pass me something off the shelf I had ordered for my old 123 a few days previously, they let me watch their 42" flatscreen TV showing a cookery program :)

We seem to be struggling although a cookery lesson is a new innovative service !!!!!!!!!!!!
There must be some.

I popped into a dealer on saturday for some wipers for the coupe, whilst I was there I had a can of coke, a millionaire shortbread, a cookie and I read the daily telegraph. It took that long.

I recently bought new wipers from my dealer. He fitted them for me, cleaned the windscreen (inside as well!!), topped up the washer fluid and left me the half bottle of concentrate in the boot. No extra charge :)

Had to pop in for a recall on The Thing, had a chat with Mark in service about getting SWMBO's SL looked at (it says it needs a service, but it's stood for over a year and @ 5 years old it's only done 9k) and he said bring it in, they'll do a check and see what it needs - no need to book it in for a service - they'll have a look and just do what it needs. Was also reminded by salesman who sold me the car that I need to let them know when I want to do a day @ Brooklands which they promised me as a sweetner for the grief I had just before I collected the C63. Pretty impressed, tbh - all the operatives there are very good.

Also previous occasions - on SL, once for replacement rear 'blade' when SWMBO opened roof with shopping in wrong place, second time for new Bluetooth widget for phone - both done (unbooked) whilst I waited.

Well done Mercedes-Benz Tonbridge (Lookers) IMO

Wiper blades are easy to change, you can fit them yourself

Of course one can Malcolm but that's not the point!

In fact it's more pleasing the fact that even though it would take the customer barely 5min to do themselves the dealer took the time and trouble to take the car into the workshop and do as I posted.. (and I had a quick cola and biscuit!!)

But think of the saving when you buy them from elsewhere, we have coffee and biscuits when I do not buy anything ;)

Well my parts people

at the local dealer, the same one Blobcat uses, are absolutely knockout. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Even the parts leader ( oooh that sounds germanic, doesn't it) gets his hands dirty and looks things up for me They all give me the benefit of their considerable experience at interpreting the blow-up diagrams and parts numbers. And they make a fuss of my kids when they are dragged along to help.

I am what you'd call an engaged customer though, and try and make it easy by looking it up first myself, if I can.
Can't say anything about the sales side, as I'm not in the frame for a new one, or even slightly used one. They do say hello as I walk through though.

I have to say the Spares service on the telephone with my local dealer (Sytners at Bristol) is excellent. If they don't have what I need in stock they order it and give me a call when it's available - usually within a day or two.

Unfortunately when I got to pick it up the parts the system usually comes unstuck. The crew of wecoming dollies on reception are very helpful. "You've come to collect from the Parts department Sir? If you care to wait over there I'll make sure someone is with you in a moment."

I've usually scrutinised all the new cars I can't afford in minute detail, read all the back copies of the glossy mags, had several free coffees and biccies and begun to wonder where the loo is before the storeman produces the part that allegedly has been sitting on a shelf with my name on it.

I hate to say it, but perhaps fewer dollies and more storemen might be the answer? :(

Indeed you can, and you can clean the windscreen inside and out yourself too...but if someone offered to do it for you for free...would you really say no?

I went into the dealers last week for 2 x washers for the banjo bolt on the cooler pipe in preparation to change my ATF again.

Got the usual look up and down from the "suits" as I was in my overalls.

He questioned why I was removing it and said you only need to remove the 4 litres from the sump...but I could have the washers if I wanted.......

Off he went to check,
"non in stock sir"

"well can't you order them in for me?"

"yes we can, but they only come in packs of 50 and will take 2 days"

"but I only require 2"

"yes but as we don't keep them in stock you would have to buy the 50"

I told them to forget it and walked out....

Pretty standard service for the dealer. Last time I was a good half hour waiting to be seen at the parts desk. Numerous "suits" walked past me. In the end I asked the receptionist if anybody was going to serve me....and finally somebody came out.

I only go in when I have to if it is a part that is best bought from the dealer now.

But If I could save £25 by doing it then I would choose to do it, but on the other hand I never have a dirty windows on the inside, and seldom on the outside

Several. All focussing on John R Weir group.

Mb Grangemouth. Good servicing but dear, never any issues with time or the work.

Mb Perth, the sales staff took an S class down to Glasgow for my old man to test to save him a trip. The hand over was brilliant with lots of time taken to explain the controls and features of the flag ship Mercedes.

Mb Inverness. A forum member from the other side experienced a puncture on his CLS55. Their service dept was closed but they not only checked to see if they stocked the tyre, but when they twigged they didn't they gave Sean local tyres places numbers to see if a tyre could be found.

Actually two of mb Glasgow. Once they realised they called the wrong Mr Taylor they fixed my E class on sat Am as they knew I had a ferry to catch to France. And when John R weir had to fit new locking nuts to my e class they reimbursed the cost as they over tightened them. Actually two more. They did an ATF change for me quickly on acsaturday am so I could be in Stirling for lunch and they fixed the swapped wheel tyre issue with a new tyre.
