This is pretty incredible, I'm an old fashoined toolmaker now working in a fast paced cnc company, but this turns the clock back to real engineering.

THIS IS A MUST WATCH

----- Original Tiniest V-12 Diesel Engine

YOU HAVE GOT TO WATCH THIS CLIP, IT’S AMAZING VIDEO OF TRUE
CRAFTSMANSHIP.

AN OPERATIONAL V-12 DIESEL ENGINE THAT FITS IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND.

This is not CNC technology; this guy made everything at home on his lathe and drill press.

Took 1220 hours (a year and a half?) to make the 261 pieces.

12 individual cylinder heads, TINY rods and pistons, dual "underhead" cams with pushrods to rockers in the heads.

And, he did break-in runs using an electric drill driving the crankshaft!

Even if you're not an engineer, you'll love this!

It is a work of art, but it appears to run on compressed air instead of diesel or glow fuel.

The crankshaft appears to only have two main bearings so wouldn't withstand the percussion of internal combustion, and the camshafts are geared 1:1 with the crankshaft, indicating that the inlet valve stays open for the power stroke to allow the compressed air in.

Take a look at this one...

Compressed air or not its fantastic. I would love a model V8 petrol of that size to put on my desk and just run from time to time. Maybe link to a pencil sharpener.

As above, the 1:1 gearing with cams makes this a 2 stroke engine, and shows it must be run by the compressed air line we see on the stand.

It is possible to build 2 stroke diesels, but they rely on superhcharging, and typically use sleeve valves as well as poppet valves.
