Hi

My SLK has larger alloys and lower profile tyres which I don't think are standard.

How do I find out what the tyre pressures should be?

I have put a photo of car to show wheels

Oh, and would these wheels fit on a R 171 for future reference?

Thanks

Usually inside the filler flap or your handbook

Tyre pressure remain the same irrespective of the wheel/tyre combo.

Pressures should be set within the range stated on the fuel filler flap or in your handbook.

Experiment within the range recommended to give the best ride/wear

The ET of the 170 and 171 are virtually the same so they will fit

Your wheels look to be 17"? Whether they would fit an R171 depends on the offset (the bolt size and pitch is the same). If they are a correct fitment for your car they should fit an R171 - the offsets are only marginally different.

Check the size and offset for both cars here

Cheers for the replies folks. Will check my pressures later.

I love these wheels. They look nice and are very easy to keep clean. Would love to transfer to my future R171 in a couple of years

No point when they are all battered, have caught a few kerbs and when the paint is falling off

I do not mean it ;)

If these wheels have been on the car since 2001, they're in excellent shape :D

I dont speak german! Lol

I recently checked my pressures. Tbey all seem to be aroung 25 psi

The stated pressures on the fuel flap are 33 psi rear and 30 psi front. I pressume this is for standard wheel and tyre size. I adjusted my pressires to this and the ride felt very 'hard' over bumps.

Im still none the wiser

Easy enough to work out though...

Pick your manufacturer / your model ..it fills most of the other stuff in then it shows front and rear ..pick a typical tyre size you have on (cant make much difference by supplier can it??) and it goves you the BAR..convert to PSI here => http://www.centauro-owners.com/articles/psibar.html

I've stated this a few times and keep getting told I'm talking rubbish. Glad someone out there agrees.

Russ

Some tyre makers say it should be the same, not an easy thing, with larger wheels and skinny tyres if the pressure is too low then the wheel gets smashed on any pot hole, take them over the pressure and the ride is like solid tyres, is there not a happy medium

I set the pressures at manufacture recomendation. The ride was so hard it felt like I was back in my MG TF!

Think I'll set mine at 26 front and 28 rear as oppossed to 30 and 33

Yep, and it does not help that the fronts wear at the edges and the rears in the middle, plus they are staggered so cannot be swapped over.

Just stick 32 psi in all round. Worked for me on every car I've owned

And the same with me, I think that below 30 on most will give incorrect tyre wear and easy to damage the rim.
