...everything was going fine, until I tried to get it to kickdown, which it would not. It'll go into 3/2 gear manually, but resolutely refused to kick down in either S or E setting.

The pedal was pushed to the floor past the 'notch'. It felt like it was trying to kickdown as there was a couple of small jerks but would not go down the 'box

Any ideas? Car was good apart from this. Seller is going to get it looked at next week, and I'm still interested as long as it's rectified.

This is in 2 parts, an electric kick down for a first gear start, and cables for other kickdown functions,, it should not be a hard fix to cure this

Thanks for the reply,

I hope it's an easy fix for the owner, otherwise it was sweet as a nut, and I really want to buy it!

Nothing much in the boxes to cause it,, it should just be adjustment

I'd probably get a professional opinion so it doesnt end up being a more expensive job than you think

If you like it i'd just buy it anyway, no big deal, even if it never worked again you can just use the lever as you said. nice 124 estates are becoming less!

+1. As long as all other changes are good you will get used to manual downchanges for the kickdown. Most people drive manuals all the time so it can't be that much of a problem to do this the once or twice a week you need to!

It could also be kick down relay, not expensive. Hope this helps

Good point Brian, the fuel pump relay is also the kick down relay and the track goes open circuit, a well known fault from years ago:D:D

Owners going to put it into an MB specialist this week to rectify. I'd rather see it fixed before purchase for peace of mind.

OK that Kick down relay is a very well known old fault, do point this out to the guy who is looking at it as he may not know that fault,,, the printed circuit track cracks and it is dead easy to bridge the gap with a strand of wire and solder over it

Hi did you get kick down sort if so was it relay.

The seller emailed me back, saying he replaced the kickdown switch at the pedal, but this did not fix the issue.

I've actually bought a different car, so this one is now of the radar, but I assume the next thing he'll try is the relay.
