Hyundai and Kia really going the extra mile due to incorrect mpg claims...

Could you just imagine MB doing this? IMO MBs ficticious, Jackanory mpg claims, especially for their new petrol models deserve some scrutiny from the authorities.

I agree with Orb the Impaler - Jackanory. My MPG is nowhere near what MB say it should be even if I drive like my granny.
PS Orb: give me your EXC 250!

Heh! It's actually got a 350 kit on it (which is handy, if a bit naughty for enduros), just put all new panels and Jagermeister graphics on it as well as new Michelin AC10 knobblies. Not ridden an enduro for a couple of years and took it out for the first time since I got it on Saturday; I'd forgotten just how "squirmy" knobblies are on wet tarmac

Back on-topic - some friends of ours (their's was the SLK that impressed me enough to get one) had an R172 200 - it *drank* fuel, and never got anywhere near the MB claimed figures, despite being driven like Miss Daisy and numerous visits to MB.

None of the newer ones I have used managed the claimed figures, my 210 does.
But Mercedes compensate ?
Maybe after the pig flies and hell freezes over, Mercedes don't even honour written contracts.

I could better the fuel economy figures for my 210 and 211, I can't get close to the smart though but I use it almost exclusively for commuting so I'm happpy(ish) with the 50mpg. My 911 is 24.5 and improving all the time :)

Perhaps thats it, in the recent race for headline MPG figures some artistic licence or puff became commonplace.

This has been on Watchdog before, disgruntled owners not achieving claimed MPG figures. So Watchdog gives the cars to a professional who beats the published MPG figures. It's all down to driving and conditions, the majority on the roads do not have a clue how to achieve good MPG figures.

The majority on the roads don't realise that you have to drive at a steady 50 to achieve the stated figures (as per your photo). On my commute, the traffic is either stationary or travelling at 70+ and sticking to 50 is creating a moving road block. The conditions and style for the tests do not reflect normal driving so people have the wrong expectation.

Absolutely, you cannot achieve these figures in modern traffic conditions unless you are the only car on the road. As soon as you slow down for another car the chance has gone, plus as you say, it can get dangerous when no one expects a car to accelerate so slowly in front of them. And it is very boring also!
