I've been using my distronic quite a bit lately, and finding it quite fun.

But,

Is it possible to have normal cruise control like we had in our clk ? Just the ability to dial in a speed and leave it ? I don't mean the limit function, I have found that. I just can't seem to make it ignore the car in front (unless there isn't a car in front of course). Any thoughts from the experts out there ?

No I don't think so.
All you can do is adjust the distance at which it will keep your car from the one in front.

On cars fitted with Distronic (as opposed to Tempomat) then the Distronic function is not separate from the "regulator" part.

Maintaining a speed and ignoring the slower car in front sounds like a recipe for disaster. You can accelerate to pass without affecting the Distronic setting so why would normal cruise be a benefit?

You set distronic in the same way that you set CC just set it at the desired speed and that is it, I use it on all types of road, so going say 60 and I hit a 50 zone, 2 pushes down and the speed is set to 50, simpler that just cannot be

Oh well, sounds like mine is working as intended, just thought I'd check.

I got confused by the manual, which seemed to imply that I have CC and distronic, which is clearly not the case.

Lol Iwould not ignore them, I was just wondering if the CC could be made to, like in a "normal" car, but apparently not.

I find the Distronic the most useful option on the car. :D

I must admit that I have mine set to the minimum distance that it is happy with, mainly because when cruising on the motorway people have a tendency to pull out infront of you at a distance at which the distronic then applies the brakes.

However, the function that I use the most is the speed limiting feature. Far more useful in roadworks where the traffic density can give the Distronic a fit, I also find it more relaxing as I feel in control rather than worrying about when the distronic will brake or not.

Well, I like it. It takes some nerve not to touch the brake pedal when approaching a queue of stationary vehicles, but definitely fun.

With my distronic plus it takes the car down to a stop and the car starts off again as the traffic starts up. You soon get used to the fact that it is going to stop :D.

.

I agree and that is the annoying bit on motorways, where people jump in if you leave a gap of any size, they cut in causing your car to brake.:(

Well that's the thing, I hover my foot over he brake pedal just in case !

Starting off again would be amazing, that sounds good.

On the 230 and others yes the car will bleep if it cannot cope with stopping, in a few years you will learn to trust it, on the plus version only fitted to the S class cars the cars seems to brake easier and I do not get that bleep asking you to assist much at all,, only once in Germany in fact

That got on my nerves as well at the beginning, but now I leave the distance at a reasonble setting ('bout 1/2 way), and if someone pulls out, without it being an emergency, you just need to give a little pressure on the accelerator to cut out the Distronic temporarily. Ease off acc. when distance OK.

Simples: no braking, and Distronic still "on". :D

Yes a nice way to do it as you can over ride the system and just leave the overtaking one that intended to cut in, just to gain 5 metres of road with no where to go :D
