w202 knocking during gear change

hi guys
when I push or release the clutch there is a loud knock from underneath at first I thought it was the heat shield has sunk checked it out and removed it however the knock is still there
wondering if this is a common problem

wondering if this is a common problem

What other symptoms do you experience?.. Does the gearstick jolt, or the floorpan feel like something is hitting it, doe sthe car also jolt, what kind of noise is it....dull thud, metallic clank, etc?... More info required etc to see if anyone can assist
