We never recommend the use of additives in our gear boxes, I cannot recall anyone using it

As soon as someone talks of adding OIL to transmission FLUID I tend to get a bit twitchy. Personally I would not put that stuff anywhere near an MB autobox. Try changing the fluid and filter as previously suggested. You may have a capped dipstick tube but unlikely to contain a dipstick--- Mercedes have a special tool= dipstick which they use. You can buy them on E BAY once you know the gearbox type you are dealing with.

I am sure we help the cars when we can and the owners content is incidental.

No that is your engine number. You will have a 722.6 gearbox in your car. The filter and sump gasket I would get from MB, will only cost you £20. There are a range of good oils available for these boxes. Castrols ATF dextron III, Carlube ATF-U, Mobil 134, Triple Qx are all specced to MB 236.9/10 and are available from all good factors.

So would you say these are better than MB supplied ATF?

MB wont supply DX III fluid, its no longer available and the 236.14 fluid is supplied to MB by Febi and is slightly superior, but so is the cost at £14.50 per litre.

The stuff MB will supply you now is specced to MB 236.14. Which goes forward to the new 7G tronic 722.9 boxes and backwards covering the older 722.6 boxes. When these boxes were released the specced fluid was MB 236.6 Dextron III replaced by MB236.9/10.

So to save some more money, there is nothing wrong with using an original specced DXIII fluid supplied by another quality manufacturer.

he definitely is!

Great memories of him as a player for my team, Bristol Rovers and then as a manager, the biggest mistake we ever made was sacking him, could have been a championship club if our board had exercised a touch more patience.
