This is a little moan...more annoyed at myself really for not being more motor savvy!
I purchased my 2001 ML270 in March 2012 with 68k miles, full MB service history etc etc. Not being an expert i put all my trust into the dealer for selling me 'a lovely 4x4 that he was going to give to his wife except it didnt have 7 seats'...did i really fall for that salesman bull, yes unfortunately!
I had the car 3 days before it went back for a complete gearbox overhaul, not too worried it was under dealer warranty and they were more than helpfull in sorting the problem. That was in March 2012 and had no issues since.....
Today it went for its service with my trusted local garage (they havent serviced it before so had no idea what to expect), my god the 'whats wrong / bodged' list made my eyes water, literally
The actual service went ok, apart from the bill for 8 litres of oil! needs front pads, bulb changes, wipers etc etc standard stuff, then came THE LIST.... (remember im no expert so bear with me if i get it a bit wrong)

- Altenator cracked, ok for now but must be changed
- Suprisingly the offside rear shocks and other suspension bits have been previously replaced, and nearside shows no signs of damage
- Power steering hose was just about held on with a bit of tape and jubilee clips!
- White bulbs instead of yellow ones in the indicators
- Oil absolutely everywhere, so much so that they have no idea where its coming from. They suspect its old oil from an old, what looks like an explosion. They cleaned it up and will recheck in a month
- Turbo blowing oil / air??
- Antifreeze, possibly still the original liquid... this car is over 10 years old..can that be right?
- etc
- etc
My point to this is i was sold a well looked after, lovely car, from what i thought a reputible dealer. What a pile of bull s**t, i was hoping like my local garage i found a dealer i could trust...so so wrong.
Actually i still like the car and have no intentions of getting rid of it i just didnt expect to find or be told what a mess it had been left in under the bonnet. Dealer did a very good job of cleaning the engines surface and making it look all sparkly!!
