Hi, My siren has gone wrong on my C200 1991, the part number is 2208202826, I've rang Mercedes and they say this part has been superseded but wouldn't give the new part number.
Could somebody please tell me the new part number so I can look for a cheaper part on the internet.
Thanks
Chris.

You can buy the equivalent alrm siren unit from Scorpion UK for about half the price or less of getting it from MB. They don't deal direct so you have to buy from a local Scorpion agent, but suggest you try a few different places as some seem to put a fairly large premium on the price. The only difference will be that because it is a generic unit and not MB specific it does not have a fitted plug, you just have to cut it off your old unit and solder onto the new lead once it has been cut to length.

I replaced the one on my SL320 recently and it cost me about £35. They may have different part nos across different models, but most of the 90s MBs have essentially the same siren unit with small variations in mounting and wiring connection details.

MB gave me the same story about it no longer being available from MB and not being able to replace the siren unit from any other source, suggesting I get a whole new alarm system installed!!

Maybe its not reasonable to expect them to be aware of these things, but I don't think they are bothered either.

It's a 1991 c200.

Sorry Chris, 1991 and 1998 in your details confused me, however you seem to have the same part numbered siren fitted to your car and what was fitted to mine, which as I said was superseded by A2198203226.

I stand to be corrected but I think A2198203226 is a Mercedes only part, however try these guys here with an email… http://www.scorpionauto.com/stafftechnical.htm

Dec, Hi. I am not sure what MB model the red coloured scorpion alarm is used on, but the one I recently replaced on my SL320 which was supplied by scorpian looks exactly the same as the black MB you have in the photo. The only thing is it doesn't have the MB star on the top.

I can't remember the name now, but there is a dedicated DIY website for the 1st generation A-class which has a detail write-up on the alarm siren problems and replacement. They may possibly have differing MB part nos but I beleive that they are the same unit shared between a number of models. The A-class website also advocates using the Scorpion alarm siren rather than buying from MB.

I would say that the MB branded item is almost certainly from the same parts manufacturer the Scorpion sourced item as the wire colour coding and the exact details of the exterior black plastic moulding are precisely the same?

The thing is that most if not all cars had the alarms fitted to comply with Thatcham rules in the UK by the dealer. These were all sourced from Scorpian.

This is why there can be differences in the installations

This ran from about 1990 up to 2001 on most models, new models after this date had factory alarms approved by Thatcham
