As a few on here might know I initially bought the 202 as a runaround while I sorted out a few issues with my FTO and when I rang Adrian Flux to swap the insurance over I got a nice surprise as the insurance went down from about 550 to 250 which was nice but not too surprising as the merc is worth half what the fto is. Just had their renewal in and its gone up to 560 and if I do it monthly then it hits the heady heights of 610!! and this is on a car that's only worth 700. A complete joke!! Anyone know of a decent insurer who is not going to ask stupid money?

yup have done a couple and got it at 430 and thats with less vol excess as well. It's rediculous though as they advertise very heavily with the FTOOC and cant even give a decent quote for members.

Suprisingly I got good deals this year and last year from Admiral with a multicar policy. Mercedes quoted me over £1000 ontop of the Admiral price

Same here according to the comparison sites. Admiral are coming up the cheapest. Direct line want over a grand so wont be dealing with them.

As with all insurance, you need to check the small print. I've went with the lowest price internet companies before and found out their european cover was only third party or windscreen cover was not included.

They are omitting all sorts these days to get the premium down and appear at the top of the internet comparison sites. Driving other cars seems to be favourite one to get dropped.

Buyer beware.

We are not all ripped off Pete, many of us get a very good deal in this present climate

shame i dont then!i pay more than DOUBLE the amount to insure my car for myself and Isla for S,D&P useage as my dad (only 20 years older and with an at fault accident in the last 5 years and more points on license than me as he has 6 i have 0) paid on the same car for himself, my mother as a learner driver and had business useage on his policy due to his work. ok, i know age is a factor, but how can 2 qualified drivers, with clean licenses, no claims in last 6 years at least, cost more than double what it costs for a driver with points/accidents, learner drivers and business useage on their policy?
my premium was over £500, dads was £230!!!!

im aware of that but every time i have changed postcode, its made almost no difference to my insurance costs. £20 has been the most difference up or down, but mostly its stayed the same, near enough.

i wouldnt mind it being a BIT more but to be almost £300 more is a bit too much IMO

i wonder how much prices would drop if car insurance WASNT a legal requirement? it seems odd in some respects that you can insure a £200K house and its contents for less than it costs to insure a car worth a couple of £k.

also, if car insurance doesnt replace on a new for old basis as we know it doesnt, surely the insurance costs should come down with the value of the car as the insurers will have to pay out less in the event of a total loss etc

Well insurance companies have their data basses , and they have their reasons for the price differences.

The labour cost doesn't decrease with the age of the car. Also it's not just your car they have to cover but potential 3rd party costs..

It might be worth getting someone, or you doing a check using a false name and giving the same details to see what comes up, do not use your car reg number though

true, but if the insurance costs were at least partly reflected in the value of the car, it would make sense.

a few years ago when i worked on the railway, i had 2 cars. the one i used for work i paid £40 for yet i was quoted £800+ to insure it!!!!! that was my citroen zx. yet my 210 cost me half that and was worth about 10 times what id paid for the zx at the time!!!

............. and UNinsured drivers  ...... with no licence..........MOT........ Passport etc etc

and the ridiculous costs are probably the MAIN reason there are so many UNINSURED drivers
