I have a set of MB 17" 8.5J wheels with 245/40R17 tyres.

Can I fit 245/40/R17 tyres as I have been gived a good offer?

Thanks, Phil.

Really they should be 245/45...but it will not make a huge difference so long as they are the same front and rear. You will probably use more fuel and the speedo and gearing will be different...

no the width of the tyre as to whether or not it fits the 8.5j wheel, which, as i read it, is what the OP was wondering, wasnt it?

No Pete the standard wheel is 8.5...but with a 45 profile tyre...his 40s will be lower than standard...but they're fine on the 8.5s.

Thanks guys.

The wheels are off my old CLK 7.5J 225/45/R17 front, & 8.5J 245/40R17 rears.

I want to put winter tyres on them & use them on my wifes SLK200K 2010.

The handbook lists them as an option, & I have put them on so they do fit.

I assume the rear of the car will sit 5mm lower, & the gearing will be a bit lower as well?

No...those sizes are correct for the SLK. But that's not what you asked. Such a confusing first post and a more confusing second one.
