My SL boot lid has become a bit droopy. Where is the best place to buy replacement struts ? I am assuming OEM versions are available without going through the main dealer ?

To Lift or to Hold??

Just curious - should the gas struts on the R230 actually lift the boot lid to the open position (as on eg the E Class) or merely hold the lid in the open position once raised manually? Seems more likely the latter given the weight of the assembly but would be useful to know if my struts are working or not.

One can unclip them very easily, just lever the circlip out and not right off, and they are off.

You can try pushing against a wall and you should not be able to compress them at all

Yes I have sent you an Email for PayPal please, , I still had 2 old ones and with a hard push you can just push the faulty ones in a touch so easy to find which one, as earlier, its easier not to take the circlips right off, just put a little screwdriver under them and lever them back so still on the ball of the strut.

You will need a long piece of wood or someone holding the boot open though I do it without

Try each one in turn - it won't take you long to discover which is not working - I had the lump on my head to prove it - that lid is ****** heavy!

Thats the question....it would be better if the struts actually opened the boot..but dos it all the way up ?

Strut received and fitted. Many thanks.

One of the old struts was leaking fluid quite badly, so that is the one I replaced.

Certainly has helped, but i might replace the other strut too at some point.

Well you have the part number on the box, pleased it all got there OK.

I sent it second class as I would have had to change a £20 note to go first class, and I am a collector of those.

No worries, thanks. It arrived before our holiday which is the main thing. I was developing massive biceps lifting the boot lid as it was, and so was SWMBO.

I wonder why you collect 20s ? I collect 50s and 5s. How strange.
