road tax question??

anyone know if 12/03/2002 falls into the higher tax band? i seem to remember pre march 2001 being a bit cheaper?
any ideas how much a years tax on a 320 petrol e class would be registered on 12/03/2002 would be?

True Pete, I just over worked and for too long, when you are working you are not spending, when you are not working life can be hard, things will pick up for you

just thought......if you kept hold of one of your old pre 73 jags you could go to the post office and collect your free tax disc...when my old Vdub was on the road i used to just love going in and getting free tax:lol: (she is currently having a rest at the inlaws garage) may have to talk nice to Cole see if he can weld up a hole in the inner wing :lol:...in exchange for a shed load of jaffa cajes:lol:

There really is no sense to vehicle tax charges these days.

Road tax always used to be based on the fact that if you used a vehicle on the road, you had to pay for that right, as the vehicle took up space & did its own bit of wearing out, so effectively, you were paying for the maintainence.

So, i know this chap that has one of these super efficient new BMWs.
He does 60000 miles a year and pays ZERO road tax.
How does that work then???

For instance, my motorbike has a CO2 rating of zero.
It causes NO congestion and because its not sitting in traffic all day, it emits less exhaust fumes.
When ridden with care, it can attain 70+mpg.
It weighs 210kg & has 2 reasonably narrow wheels & one wheel drive, so it causes much less wear to the road surface than any car.
It doesn't take up any valuable parking spaces.
It took less resorces to make than a car.
At the end of its life, it'll be less to dispose of.

Why then have i just had to pay £45 to tax it for 6 months?!!!

On that basis and considering the senario with my BMW owning friend, DVLA should be GIVING me money to use it on the road, not charging me . . .

Like i said, there really is absolutely no logical reason for the way road tax charges are worked out. . . and if you say its based on environmental issues, the above proves it isn't!

Not forgetting that if you have a pre 1960s vehicle they are not only tax free but also MOT exempt

It would obviously be fairer to put a penny on the fuel and do away with road tax: at least that way foreign trucks would pay their share.

Especially since most of what we pay them back is just frittered away on fanciful projects, cockups, the EU, and handouts to poor countries.

The Gov. bangs on about 'OUR' national debt (even though it created it) and chastises our jobless and out of work as if they are responsible for it.

I wonder how much of our road tax we pay, and also congestion tax, is really spent on transport ministry think tanks lobby groups, and bungs to local council highways who should be filling in pot holes? Very little !

Much less than 1% of govt spending goes on overseas aid. You can argue it is too much, but to claim it is "most" makes you look ridiculous.

Most govt. spending goes on benefits, education and the health service. And I can't see UKIP abolishing pensions, schools and hospitals.
