...is this still done at service time, or does anyone do it at regular intervals (assuming you don't have a staggered set up)? I ask because they seem to still do it in the US.

I have a friend who still swears by rotating his tyres! Every service he swops them round (diagonally)
It's something I haven't really though about! He is getting almost three years out of a set though!

Are tyres not mainly " one directional" now?, so that really as long as the rears are the same size etc then you can only swap front to back and not diagonally. Which really negates any benefit of swapping them.

That's correct, most services are completed without removing the wheels and if you ask for the wheels to be changed around they charge you £50.00 extra.

When my CL was last serviced they told me they never have time to remove the wheels, even though you are charged for that time on a B service

i swap mine front to rear as the fronts tend to round off with cornering forces etc, so i put them on the rear to wear them more evenly. the rears tend to wear slightly more in the middle, so it balances out. i get 4 evenly worn tyres rather than 2 rears with the middle slightly more worn than the edges, and the fronts worn on the edges with loads of life left in the middle.

i only swap diagonally if wear rate dictates its necessary ie theres lots of roundabouts around here so the front left gets particularly hard worn, so if needs be i swap it to the right rear

Can I offer my wheel changing service £49.99 ?
That should equate to circa £200 ph.

My rears are 285s and my fronts are 235s, so i don't think they are interchangeable. :D

Shouldn't do it, tyres wear dfferently on axles, just replace when needed.

your rears want letting down a tad

theyre set to the pressures in the fuel flap. as ive already said, if i swap them front to rear every so often it evens itself out. and they often get to below pressure anyhow, as i dont check the pressures as often as i should!

I thought that this was now claimed to be bad due to shifting the stresses put in the carcasses of the tyre?

I only move front rear and back to balance out the tyre wear and because I don't like different tyres (which I currently have on my summers from those the garage put on)
