I need a aerial fitted but don't fancy feeding the new cable right round and down to rear of radio so was thinking of cutting the new cable and joining it to the original one up at the roof ,,, or if I joined the new cable to the end of the old one would it ever pull through ,,knowing my luck it would probably get stuck half way. Any ideas ?

Hi,
Are you trying to replace the original Co-ax? from the ariel amp at the rear screen to the head unit?

You can do an in line join, antenna inner wires tend to be very thin a the coax is air spaced

What you need to do is cut the outer plastic sheath off about 1½" back, push the braiding back and by using a pointed object you can separate the wires to make a hole in the braiding, bend the inner wire back on itself and pull it through the hole that you have made in the braiding, pull the braiding straight and you effectively 2 wires. now do not try and cut the plastic off the inner wire, use a lighter or match and get it hot and you can pull it off with your finger nail, you need about ¼" of plastic left. twist the inner wires together and solder, insulate, then twist the outer braids together and solder then insulate, or you could slide some heat shrink over the cable before you start.

I did have some pictures on doing this, but they are gone,,,I can put some up tomorrow

Thanks you may be right as the cable may be connected with the eye fitting over the bolt in the mask. Have to drop interior light off to check.

Thanks but.

Mine is a 95 w124 aerial on roof non electric ,just a bog standard roof one will do.

Fitted aerial today and was able to use existing cable ,its much better picking up most M W stations but struggling with some F M , could the radio be a bit of a dud just stuck in to fill the hole.
Any chance the old cable is getting a bad contact ie earth or if this was the case would it not pick up the M W stations so easy as it does.
It's not the original radio.
