One would imagine there are about 5-10 litres left, so maybe 20 miles or so. If she's static then switch the thing off.

When my fuel light came on the other day in the SL, the computer said I still had 70km remaining (approx 45 miles?) . This varied according to how hard I pressed the accelerator pedal, so yes, definitely switch off. Of course that will not be nice, considering how cold it is ... :(

Better cold for a short while, they clear these accidents quickly if no serious injury.

Does the SL have the Rest function? Should keep the cabin warm for a while with the engine off

Can't really see the point of telling her the mileage left. Either it will make it or it won't!

Ask her to try the "rest" button as Peter suggests - that may eke out the heat a bit more.

If your lady presses the bottom left steering wheel button followed by the top left button.....possibly trial and error for her......but then the ''range'' should be displayed. This will fluctuate between stationary and moving slowly but the fuel reserve is fairly ''safe'' at about 10 litres......bottom line is that she has little choice but to stick with it.

A big one
Miles left is meaningless when stuck in stationary traffic: it will be zero if the blockage isn't cleared in time. Switch off, press REST and be glad of having a car with such a function.

Every week, I take my daughter to a piano lesson and sit in the car for half an hour usually watching a DVD. The REST function is great at this time of year: the car doesn't get cold.

I have had the "Range" on mine down to 0 miles, being stuck in traffic for a good 30mins on the motorway (turned engine off) then drove to the filling station near home some 15 miles away.

....running the engine to "stay warm" is pointless if you are about running dry. She will get even colder when it runs out and she has to walk to get a jerry can or is waiting for the breakdown.

If you know where she is, you could google to find the nearest petrol station, to avoid her running out. ;)
