124 cabriolet (A124?)

A question. I do like the cabrio/convertible 124s. Did they do a 3.0 24v version of it or was it straight into the 320 (and 220). Reason I ask is if it comes to it, I would like to avoid the loom issues. But perhaps not possible?

I think there were very early 1991 pre facelift cars with the M103 engine but you will be very lucky to find one, see my previous posts below.

Hi Peter. Thanks for that. Interesting. It would be great to find one of the earliest. I like the 3.0 engine, although it seems to be criticised for lack of torque. Does me fine!

Some research required - and probably a need to try to sell the SL to fund one. Or at least not get nagged to death for getting something else as well!!

If you are able to find one its a buyers market at this time of year

For the records the answer is no as the 124 cab was not built until till mid 90's
and the 320 was the only 6 pot engine fitted to the cab unlike several engine options avaliabe in the saloons

A124 did come with 300-24 engine but lhd only

These come up for sale from time to time, often as not as Spanish exiles. I like them because they are pre facelift with the proper sizes radiator grill.

That's like buying a car without power steering as it's "More to go wrong". Denying yourself arguably the best version of a car because of one part is ridiculous

I see a nice 300-CE-24 convertible (gotta love the long badge and prominent radiator grill) regularly as it lives near me, but it's obviously spanish and LHD (convertibles aren't popular here so i've never seen another w124 convertible here yet)

As for the wiring loom I can see the point about the loom issues on a coupe/saloon/estate thats about £1k but on a cabriolet that's about £10-15k and may have already had it done/can be redone for £700 I don't think it's such an issue, particularly as you have so much more choice for 320s/220s than the occasional 300-24 that might turn up.

The facelift bumpers are nicer anyway but if you like that pre facelift grille it must be quite easy to put one on a facelift car?

I've had put a new engine wiring harness and a new head gasket in my W124, done about 8 years ago with no problems since.

If you get a good cabriolet, it is worth the investment IMHO
