I currently have a W203 C220CDi AG estate on a 51 plate, really like it but I also have 2 small boys so there is not room for an extra person.

I want a larger car and was thinking about a ML / GL / X5 / Toerag etc.

I really like the GL and would prefer to stick to Mercedes but is it massive but with the 7 seats it would be perfect and the rarity is appealing.

The road tax is high on all of the choices so I have seen a GL 420 with the V8 Diesel which would make a very fast car ant they all seem loaded with options which is a good thing.

What are peoples real world experiences of running these (ML or GL), I have an excellent local MB specialist for servicing so not particularly worried about those costs as they are fixed prices.

This would be my ideal choice http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...ch/true/radius/1500/postcode/tq12lr?logcode=p

Opinions????

Have you considered the R class, its smaller than the ML with a good seating capacity

Unreliable over priced junk IMHO. They still don't do well in JD power surveys.

chassis rot away faster than MB wheelarches!

i manage to get 2 kids and the mother in law in the back of mine, but it is tight. in your situation, id probably look for a 211 personally, or possibly an R class, but then, i have no need for 4 wheel drive

I though they were very long, they are not that attractive but I suppose you are looking out!!!

E Class - would have to be the new one (211???), is it available with 7 seats?
Disco - nice but not a huge fan, friend had one and was cronically unreliable
Jeep - errrrr seriously, I have seen the interior and not impressed

I have come from Quattro Audis so like 4wd, Q7 is not being considered.

I know what you mean, my father in law recently passed away and mil is coming out with us more, problem is with 2 kids in big car seats I cannot get a 5th person in the car and mine is an s211

I am having to consider a 7 seat mpv ( disco would be great but not economical enough for me as I do 35k miles a year with work and I'm not paying them to do my job :rolleyes:

does'nt the sang yong have a mercedes engine ???

they do but theyre often to a spec not fitted to MB in the UK (when the Musso came out it had the E290 turbodiesel engine, which was never available here, for example) although the newer ones may be running the same 270CDi engines

i was at the NEC motor show when the musso was launched. it had every conceivable toy at the time (1993) and was by far cheaper than any of its rivals (something like £6k cheaper than the shoguns and discos etc of the era)

on the down sides, they werent the best looking (to be kind to them) and still arent, and i dont imagine the build quality to be anything like as good, especially things like suspension joints etc.

Plenty of used 7 seat 211s around avd E classss whilst not a good looking car ticks a lot of boxes.

I think you mean I m o not a good looking car . Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that.
