I have just done 500 miles on a full ( very full ) tank. How does that sound.
Am I right that thiis is a 70ltr tank ( 2002 model). How much is in the tank when the warning light comes on.??

Taking that 500 miles to having been done on 60 litres of fuel (I'm pretty sure that 10 litres remain when the 'feed me' light comes on) that equates to around 38mpg.

Not outwith the realms of possibility for a 270 - my own 250 will do this figure on a decent, fairly constant-speed (motorway-ish) run.

Not sure on the capacity of your tank - you'd need to check the owner's manual - but I'd believe 70 litres in a vehicle the size of the ML.

Fuel Tank Capacity

Hi

I think tank capacity is 83 litres, i have put as much as 80 litres in my 2002 ml270. 500 miles sounds good to me. The best i managed was 480 miles on 72litres which is 30 mpg.

I posted a similar question several years ago but did not really get an answer: I have a 2003 ml270 and I am trying to find out what the fuel tank capacity should be? My reason for asking is that I keep reading conflicting figures: My merc owners manual states 83 litres with a 12 litre reserve but a couple of online technical reviews quote figures of 70 and 73 liters - which is right? I'm inclined to go with the merc manual figures - however, I have noticed that when I fill up the tank just as the warning light comes on I can only put 60 litres in at most. This implies that either I have a 73 litre tank with a 12 litre reserve or else I have a 83 litre tank with a large 23 litre reserve. Any thoughts?

In the last 3 years I have monitored my fuel consumption and the best I have ever managed is around 33mpg with an average of 29 mpg. In terms of the amount of fuel I have at most filled up with 68.47Litres after running with the warning light on for close to 40 miles. This leads me to suspect I must have a 70ish litre tank.

2003 ML270 sold but not forgotten. 2022 Kia EV6 RWD LR
Making the assumption that all ML270's are the same, 83 is the figure, which includes the "reserve" which is really just the amount that is left when the light comes on. That seems to vary a bit. MIne comes on with about 13 litres left.
Economy wise, if you can beat 30mpg on average running, you are doing well. I seem to get about 10.5L kilometres per litre, which is just a tad short of 30mpg.
