Evening all,

I have read up on this problem but still can't get my head around it. I have a W203 CDI and I do know diesels take a little longer to warm up.
My problem is that the car doesn't blow 'hot' air from the fans. I get ice cold air if I chuck the climate control knobs to cold air, but it takes ages for the warmer air to flood the cabin.
Is it my thermostat?

Thanks?

What temperature does the engine get to? What distance are you driving?

Normal morning run is about 10 minutes (4 miles) and roughly the same back.
Can I get the temperature from the on board computer? If so how do I get it to display?
Sorry for the almost daft response, but I'm all new to this!

You can see the engine temp from the normal gauge in the cluster. Should be approx 90 but I doubt you'll reach it on a 4 mile run in a diesel in this weather.

Select the screen with the mileage. Then simply press the up arrow on the left hand side of the steering wheel.
Alternatively you could read the manual

In all these 'cold air' posts, there are very few, if any?? mentions of sludge or bunged up pipes in the heater matrix.
Dont cars suffer with this any more ?

Not much trouble these days with the heater matrix, get the off leak and the odd blocked one but this is not so common anymore

It's operating at around 55 degrees and that is after a bit of a booting coming back on the short run from work (approx 4 miles in the evening at half 4).
That doesn't seem right to me, but again, any advice is most welcomed.

Does it get higher than that on a longer run? Should get into the 80's at least with a good thermo on a longer run.
One thing you can do to improve heating a bit is to turn the fresh air off and run it on recirculate. It will eventually default back to fresh but in the meantime you will get better heating of the cabin air.

I'll give that a bash and then take it on a longer run over the weekend and see how I get on. I'll keep you all posted.

Thanks again.

**UPDATE**

Hi guys,

Took it for a long run today (Birmingham to Aylesbury then to London and back to Birmingham), with a 20 minute break at each stop.
The temperature was reading at 55 degress F.
Is this normal?

New thermostat required.

Roughly 45 earth pounds from memory.

Assume you meant 55c :)

Just a final update,

Got the thermostat changed over, and now it works a treat. My mechanic also flushed the antifreeze and coolant, and the car is sweet. Best of all, average MPG has gone up too!
Thanks for all the advice.
