speedometer not working

speedometer is not working sometimes jest driving along and goes back to zero and been automatic cant change gear unless you stop remove key what could be causing this help please the abs light is not coming on so cannot be that

You have lost a speed signal somewhere, without this speed signal the box does not know what to do re changing gear.

We had a post on this a couple of months back and it was a wiring problem, worth doing a search on this.

You have not just changed the radio have you

Then it could be that

Unplug the radio and try the car, just the main multi plug, if all OK then cut the wire on pin 1 and all will be fine, or it should be

Its an interesting one and most indies do not know about this

The speed signal is used to change the volume of the radio, and this only works with the original radios. If you change the radio, then cut the wire from pin 1, and problem solved

It is only valid on from the 124,202,210 and 140 up to around 2000

bad news malcolm speedo stopped 3times 2day on 10 ml trip radio completely disconnected since you told me to do it any more ideas it was fine until the last 2mls once things got warm
