W203. 2005 the battery warning light came on yesterday morning and went off after 2-3 secs.
Since then no sign of it at all.
Is this a sign of an impending fault?
Can the car still be driven?
I have looked at lots of postings on the subject, but the answers appear to differ for different cars.
Is this likely to be an expensive issue. If so its really the first in the years of having the car.

STAR diagnosis would reveal the recorded error. The car can be driven, Mercs tend to go into limp mode or shut down if the problem is potentially fatal

Had it Star diagnosed today and all seems to be well. Possibly down to the very cold morning when I started it.
But the Star did flag up that there appears to be a very slight wear on camshaft sprocket.

It's not a real issue, but if it should need doing it will necessitate taken the engine out, so,could be costly.
Only done 62k miles, does seem rather premature.
Must thank those who recommended MB of Medway. Very helpful indie.

That fault may not show up again, many do not and just a 1 off

I know that Star is deemed the Holy Grail, but how does a box of electrickery diagnose wear on a sprocket?

Is,nt there a electronic advance/retard unit on the camshaft sprocket? I suspect STAR is getting feedback from this, though why the engine needs removing to replace it god only knows.

Apparently with the 2.5 v6 engine it has to be drawn out of the rear of the block, this necessitates the removal of the engine.
Please correct me if this is incorrect.
Could save me a lot of money.

This is the 272 is it not that has the timing chain problems

The engine does not have to come out to remove the camshafts, or the solenoid
