I've just cracked my near side rear 19" 5 spoke 275 alloy wheel at the cost of £650 to replace plus the tyre that exploded, another £200. I was just driving down a dual carriage way when the tyre de-laminated. On inspection at my trye garage, the allow was cracked. The car has only done 21,000 miles. Later while it was in the MB garage, they advised replacing the front 2 alloys also, as they were both buckled. Another £610 each. I've not been ramming the car up curbs or speed bumps and although I do remember hitting a couple of deep pot holes, surely alloy wheels are not so soft that a minor bump can crack/buckle them? Do I have a bad batch? Are MB alloys problematic? I'm shocked... Shouldn't have bought 19" with low profile tyres.
Kids, father Christmas isn't coming this year.

I suspect it's a combination of terrible roads, low profile tyres and huge 19" rims. I've seen a new car go out for a test drive and 30 minutes later it required 4 new wheels and tyres...

Yes, I can't see the point in them myself.

Wrong wheel for UK roads. Happens on Audis and BMWs as well

So sorry to hear your bad news, I had 20" on my CL and have gone down to 18" and the ride is so much improved. My friends all say " it looked better on the other wheels"

What also annoys me is the amount of balance weights needed on AMG rims

My argument is that you can't see the wheels from the drivers seat but you can feel them. I changes the 18's to 16's on my W210. I've 19's on the 911 but I'm really careful with them.

Yes and a pig when reversing when you cannot see them, thank god we use disabled parking now and hardly ever park along the kerb
