The CLS does not get out and about as much as it should really and I keep getting the consumer off-line message, so I have just bought it a Ctek MSX5.0 charger from Amazon. 1/3rd the price MB are asking for the same unit with their label on it!
MB advise Ctek (well, actually they advise only their "own" chargers..) because of the very low ripple current these units deliver. Apparently poor quality charger current can adversely affect the car's systems.
I plan to connect directly to the rear battery using Ctek's convenience connector, leaving it permanently installed. Then I can simply plug the charger into the connector as and when required. The convenience connector has a traffic light indicator of battery condition, so a quick look into the boot will tell if charging is needed. The Ctek works out the best charging mode to use
Hopefully this will maintain the car's electrics in the best of health
