Have completed a grand total of 9000 miles since they were replaced with MB ones and it sounds like there knocking again.
Anyone one else had to replace so quickly ?

All I can say is the quality of these things is awful, OK it may not be that but though the MB links and bushes are cheap to buy, they still have to be fitted.

The drop links for my V70R cost £65 each but they will last for 200k miles

If there is a knocking from the drop-link area? check the knuckle that they fit to on the lower wishbone, thats where the knock comes from, it's very rarely its the drop-link itself
whats to wear on the d/link? have you seen the size of the rubber bush its hugh.
this post applies to a w211,you haven,t mentioned yours.

Never heard of a set go that quickly but it is possible I suppose.

Turn the steering lay down and if possible grab a fistfull of drop link and try to shake it, if it's that worn you should feel the movement / clonking.

Also how are the ARB bushes looking? Perhaps check the ball joints on the arms too.

From experience drop links rattle and clonk like crazy when going over rough surfaces at low speed like a poorly surfaced car park and when going over bumps in the road (regardless of speed).

ARB bushes normally knock under acceleration and braking.

Ball joints on the ARM are more noticeable at low speed poorly surfaced roads and can be felt more on the steering, whereas the drop links will never shut up.

If you know all of this already sorry - just bored and replying to some threads with hopefully helpful information for people :)

I wonder if everything was tightened to correct torque.

It is normally quite low torque.

Just bought a 2nd hand A class with 59K. Noticed from reciepts provided that they've been changed twice in last 10K and they've gone again.

Can't be right surely. I dont think genuine merc ones used but still...

I don't rate the MB ones mine need replacing again after little mileage.
I might try some FEBI ones next.

Worryingly, seemed ok for 1/2 day but rattling again now. :-(

Is there anything else that can cause these to go wrong?

Agree with Malcolm, this surely can't be right, there must be something else causing them to have to be replaced so quickly

I'm beginning to wonder whether rattle is, in fact, something else.

And that my mechanic and previous ones have changed the drop links because this is the most likely cause.
