In the process of changing from Jaguar to Mercedes. Have bought a 2011 YM E class.

Can any aficionado tell me how I would know which auto gearbox I've got - 7GTronic or 7GTronic Plus and what the difference is between the two?

Thanks for any guidance.

It will be the plus box, but sadly I do not know what the difference is yet

Hello Exjag - welcome.

I believe if there's no central gearstick, with the selector being to the right of the steering wheel, then it's a plus.

I think it's that way in E Class - I don't know about others though.

Thanks for replies

Thank you for replies.

Fundamentally then, it's smoother gear changes and greater economy. My only reservation is that I generally avoid new versions of anything, preferring to wait until any problems have been resolved and ironed out; others having found any flaws.

I'm leaving behind a Jaguar XJ (preceded by an S-Type) which has been faultless during the past four years of ownership, so, being a total stranger to Mercedes-Benz I'm a bit on edge wondering if I've done the right thing.

Time will tell !!

Any photos of the car.

Also, 7G+ has been round a while now.

7G had been round for years - I have a 2008 W211 E Class brochure saying how they had made 12 million of them.

+ is evolution, not new.

I've had mine for 18 months odd now any it has been faultless (damn, hope i haven't jinxed it now!)

Very smooth, and as Malcolm says, very nice having the column select and all that free space in the centre console.

Cheers,
Bill

Disqualified driver
E classes with 7g and 7g plus had drive select.

I'd find the handbook for your car as that was the change over time for 7g and 7g plus.

I believe if you have a couloir display in the speedo and a 265bhp engine you'll have 7g plus.

7g plus cars also have taller gearing, yours should do 1600rpm at 70 in top gear. 7g is 1800rpm.

I absolutely hated the 7g in my car and every other one I drove had shifting issues. I'm lead to believe the 7g plus is smoother and faster changing.
