Hi all,
New member here, with Sprinter 316CDi motorhome.

You have probably heard it all before, but can anyone point me in the right direction of a cure please?

Just recently, our van has been kicking out black smoke on accelleration (and cruise) and seems down on power / torque. It will get up to speed, eventually, but doesnt seem to have the power it used to have.

I dont THINK the turbo has gone (hope?), but am baffled as to the cause.

Unfortunately, the van does get laid up for about 3 or 4 months at a time.

Any ideas folks?
Cheers
Carl

Hi i run similar base vehicles i once had this exact prob with a
citroen relay the cure a good dose of redex that cured power & black smoke i still own the vehicle now on 95,000 . I now add abottle to all of our deisels twice a year i wouldnt worry about overdosing if your tank isnt full . Worth atry otherwise as alreay advised ,had that on a fiat based Autotrail would not make 50 mph. Laid up for months not good ,is it poss to drive it 60 miles or so every 2 weeks ?

I would get it to a star diagnosis machine before you start waisting money you need to see what fault codes you have.

After the cold weather we have had and perhaps as you don't use all year round, you could have some summer grade diesel still in the tank that is waxing and a new fuel filter may help.

OK - further update on this now that I have had a bit of time to try and sort it.

Absolutely nowt wrong with the hoses that I can find - all tickety boo and tight, no holes, no splits....nyadda!!!

Air filter changed - no difference.

Turbo spins freely and no play in the bearings.

Good, fresh diesel in the tank.

Now really stumped on this.

Have tried to contact a few independents locally, but all say they cannot accommodate me as the van is too large for them. Anyone know of SOMEONE who can either take the damn thing in or is mobile enough to come and take a look? The van is in Gillingham, Dorset and is driving me beserk!!!!!!!

And if it is injectors - are they really nearly £200 a piece!!!!!!

Look forward to hearing the wisdom folks...

Check the turbo actuator linkage is not sticking.
