RE: Gear selector sounds loose – W210

Greetings,

My W210 estate E200 Kompressor (2000 model) has recently developed a rattling at the gear selector at the consol. It became apparent recently when I was driving on a rough road surface.

Also it sounds a bit loose when I change from park to drive when standing.

Anybody know / offer input please?

Do you access that through the consol at the gear selector or is that under the car on the rod that goes to the transmission / box ?

Thanks, for that - that helps a lot. Is this a fairly simple job ? Does the mechanism come up from the top (inside the cockpit) on best to access from underneath the car ? many thanks for all your great input.
