My smart has been dropping into limp home again so I booked it into smart Manchester and took it in last Wednesday. After drinking their free coffee, using the free wireless, looking at the £60k CLS Estate, £102k C63 Black and £190k SLS Convertible I was told that they'd reset the engine warning light...

They told me that they hadn't enough time for a full diagnosis so would need it back. Manchester is about an hour away and the M62 is interesting to say the least when in limp home mode. I took it back on Friday (limp home mode 3 times on the way there) and left it with them, no calls today to update me on their findings. I'll call them tomorrow.

In comparison my 911 also went into limp home mode last Tuesday, I called my local Porsche specialist on Wednesday morning and booked it in for Thursday (it took 2 weeks to get a booking with smart Manchester). On Thursday my 911 was plugged in the diagnostic software said misfire on cylinder 1, a new coil pack was fitted the car tested put back together then road tested and I was on my way again within the hour and just £93 lighter in the pocket.

That's pretty poor service considering that you'd booked the car in and no doubt explained the situation when you booked it in.

I had a similar experience many years ago, with them and they've obviously not changed.

I was working in the Manchester area and pre-booked my car in for a fog lamp lens replacement. I dropped the car off with them and paid for a taxi to and from the place that I was visiting.

They had the car all day and told me on arrival that they'd not been able to replace the lens as they had none in stock. I'd given them 3 days notice on booking! An argument ensued whereby they eventually paid for my taxi fares.

As it turned out that was my last day in Manchester and I had the lens replaced at my local dealership.

You couldn't make it up! So I guess if the low oil light comes on they take out the bulb. "Problem fixed, Sir". Needs reporting to MB HO I would think.

...this is the ONE reason I taught myself how to make up my own system at home...

but not to tarnish the dealer too much, as some ARE good, oddly enough & quite comically my local dealer ARE excellent at parts, but CRAP at servicing...

coincidence.... ? :D :D

I had a call back yesterday that they've replaced a leaking pipe and a sensor (or 2) then test drove it for 2 hours and it didn't fail. I'll be collecting it again tomorrow and will see what it's like. Good thing is that they're not charging me even though it's 8.5 months out of warranty.

Mine was fixed...
Engine warning light on again yesterday and a couple more limp home modes, a quick power down reset brings the power back although the loss of lights whilst doing it is a little disconcerting...
They're bringing me a spare one to use whilst they take mine away (again). I believe the newer CDI's have modified cable routing as well as other modifications so they don't go into limp home mode as much. If I can get myself another job I'll think about replacing it with a newer version.

Mine came back yesterday, I've not had chance to drive it yet however they did say that they'd replaced all of the vacuum pipes because the error kept showing up as inconsistent boost pressure.

I've been enjoying driving like an F1 driver with the flappy paddles in the one they lent me. I wish they'd dropped it off sooner yesterday as it meant I could have taken it to work. As it was they didn't park it at all well on the drive and Claire caught it with the VW driving out last night...

The paint has been taken off the rear offside corner as well as on the side of the VW  I just gave Claire a hug when she got home as I'm sure you can imagine how she's feeling about it.

I've had the rear wing painted and it looks great, at the same time I had them paint the reversing sensors I'd fitted and the diesel cap as smart don't paint them.
