The updates are done on STAR and best done with online STAR.

It needs a good guy to do it, is the car fine though when hot

If you are happy with the gearbox other than the poor shift when cold, I'd leave well alone. I have a 7G box in my car and was absolutely delighted with it until a software update was carried out to cure a harsh shift from 2-1 when cold. It has never been right since, despite several visits to the dealer. It appears that very few dealers can set up these gearboxes properly.

agreed, unless the dealer can guarantee the work ( or if it IS even possible to flash the firmware back to the previous version ), i'd leave well alone.

On a sidenote, has the fluid ever been changed ? this WILL make a big difference & should be done every 40k, it's quite a simple but messyish job, i've got the knack of doing it in a few hours on my drive ( BUT you MUST follow the WIS instructions for the fluid temp ).

HTH :)

I have always said that my box is perfect, but I may have detected the slightest jolt last week at minus 2c for the first change, but never since or again, is it worth pursuing, it will be summer in a few weeks

Same here. My ´box does a little jerky dance between 1 & 2 and 2 & 1 on cold mornings, but as soon as the car gets up to temp then everything is ok. Not going to bother having anyone mess with it.

Sorry to jump in on a post but my car also has a 7G box (W204 C320cdi). The box was serviced at 40K and the book says this is the only change required during the life of the car. Is this correct?

No.

It will require changed every 37,500 miles. 40k intervals are fine, so every fourth service or 3rd service
