How inevitable is it the head will need work on one of these engines? Seems to be commonly cited, but is it inevitable or just depends on how hard a car may have been driven?

Bit of a how long is a piece of string type question, but would be interested to hear views (the wagon I'm looking at has 110k miles and had no head work)
thanks

My 300TE managed 40K from new before the dreaded gasket failure, it then went on to 120K no problem. I assume the replacement gaskets were stronger than the originals. If it's been done I assume it will be OK

If its ok now, then dont worry about it. Infact I hear of less head problems on the 300-24 engine than the 280/320 ones that replaced it.

My 300-24 (M104.980) engine head gasket failed at about 100K miles. I am nearly at 250K miles on the replacement gasket. So far, so good.
