I've recently bought a 2008 W204, 220cdi. Driving the car to work, which is about a 9 mile journey consisting of driving through 2 villages (1 with many speed humps), some twisty B road and about 1 1/2 mile of A57 at the end. When I arrive at work my the trip computer on the dash is showing between 40 - 43 mpg (which i'm quite happy with). However I drove from junction 30 on the M1 up to Driffield (about 70 ish miles each way) via motorway and A road's, the best my car achieved all day was 41.2 mpg. I drove the majority of the trip with the cruise contol & the car in its Comfort setting.
My dad owns a W203 270 cdi on a 54 reg, and it would seem is out doing my newer car on economy.
It's probably worth a mention that while I may only be 20, i'm driving the car sensibly (mostly due the fact i'm quite afraid of crashing it) and not driving it as though I were in a rally stage.
Is this something to be expected for my car, or is there something I need to be looking at?
Any opinions/personal experience would be appreciated
